Save Georgia's Gopher Tortoise

A Better Environment For A Better Economy

Our Story

The Gopher Tortoise Conservation Initiative is working to permanently protect at least 65 viable gopher tortoise populations and 100,000 acres of habitat in Georgia by 2020.

From surveying Gopher Tortoise populations to influencing statewide land management practices, research drives our mission to preserve Georgia’s keystone species.

This initiative is a collaboration of state agencies, conservation groups, for-profit companies, foundations and landowners, devoted to protecting the gopher tortoise in Georgia.
